 Mariemont  Community  Church

The Mariemont Memorial Church was erected and presented to the people of Mariemont by Mary M. Emery as a memorial to the pioneers who had settled this part of Ohio. The stone tiles on the roof were brought from the oldest barn in England until its collapse in 1926, (Calcot tithe-barn, at Kingswood Abbey near Tetbury).

JEWISH TEMPLES

Rockdale Jewish Temple. Erected in 1906 on the SE corner of Rockdale and Harvey Avenues, Avondale

Congregation Bene Israel later known as the Rockdale Temple was the first Jewish congregation west of the Alleghenies. The first temple was erected 1836 on Broadway. The congregation left the temple above for one at Cross County Highway and Ridge Road. The building has since been torn down and there is now a playground in its place.

The building with the dome in the card above was known, at the time this card was produced, as the Temple Court Building. Built in 1864, by the Unitarians, it was originally known as the First Congregational Church. As can be seen, it was built directly across Eighth Street from the Plum Street Temple. In 1887 the Unitarians moved to a new church at Reading Road and Linton Street (see page 2 of churches). This structure was then remodeled in 1880 and used as offices by many noted lawyers of the day as it was also directly across Plum Street from City Hall. The church you see to the left of the 1st Congregational Church was the Scottish Presbyterian Church.

METHODIST  &  METHODIST  EPISCOPAL

Asbury M. E. Church

This information may, or may not, be correct. I believe that this was a church for the deaf that was known as "Cameron" that was in existence from 1910-1982.  This building was known as Asbury Chapel when they moved in. In 1982 it was destroyed by fire and the congregation joined the Avondale Church in Walnut Hills. Please correct me if I am wrong.

After 21 years of services being held in members homes a new church was erected at the present site. A new church was erected in 1857 and, again in 1891. Additions and improvements were made in 1908 and 1913 until the church you see above was completed. On January 6, 1925 the church was completely destroyed by fire although the Sunday School Section that was built in 1913 was saved. In May 1927 a new church was dedicated and this is the building you see in the photograph above. Located at 6134 Madison Road the name was changed in 1939 to the Madisonville Methodist Church. It is now known as the Korean-Madisonville United Methodist Church.
