The last image above shows the Wilson Memorial Church as it looks today. In 1874 they moved into the Ross Avenue School until 1882 when it became forbidden to worship in a public school by law. For 36 years the churches of Wilson Presbyterian and the Immanuel Church of Christ shared a building on Clay Street. In 1924 the church relocated to their present location at the corner of McClelland and Sullivan Aves.

Wyoming Presbyterian

The 2nd image above shows the church as it looks today (not a postcard). Located at the corner of Burns & Wyoming.

1st Presbyterian    Walnut Hills

The Walnut Hills Presbyterian Church is another Samuel Hannaford designed structure that was built in 1885 at 2601 Gilbert Avenue at the corner of William Howard Taft Road and Gilbert Avenue. As can be seen in the last two present day photos all that remains of this church is its 10 story high bell tower, the rest was razed in 2003 to make room for the expansion of a funeral home. The church had close ties to the movement to abolish slavery and preservationists tried for two years to save the church but could not raise the necessary funds to purchase it. Instead of buying the entire church they ended up buying the tower for $160,000. There are plans to restore the tower by adding bells, landscaping and a permanent exhibit commemorating the history of the church. It will serve as a gateway to the Harriet Beecher Stowe Cultural Heritage District.

Both structures were torn down in 1962. The two interior postcard views below are located at 5000 Colerain Ave. in Mt. Airy.

The St. Clement Church in St. Bernard you see above was constructed in 1871. In 1897 the seating was increased to 1200 and it was renovated in the 1970s to repair damage from a fire. The building you see to the right of the church is the St. Clement Friary where the brothers and priests live. The church is located at 4536 Vine Street.

St. Boniface Northside

St. Boniface 1750 Chase Avenue, Northside

The church is based on the Basilica of Saint Paul's Outside the Walls in Rome and was built in 1927.  This building replaced the original church seen above that became too small to hold the growing congregation. The last two present day views above, are not postcards.
