The Krippendorf Residence
The Cincinnati Nature Center was originally the residence of Mary and Carl Krippendorf that was referred to as the "Lodge". The 175 acre estate located at 4949 Tealtown Road, Milford contained numerous outbuildings and had a designed landscape that is now known as Rowe Woods. Carl Krippendorf was a well known shoe manufacturer in Cincinnati located at 622 Sycamore. Carl was in frail health all his life and would spend every summer from March to November at the house he built in the clean air of Milford (that was called Fob's Wood). After he and his wife's death just months apart in 1964, the estate was converted into the Cincinnati Nature Center. You can see his shoe company in the Business Section.

MADISON PARK
This park was operated under several different names, including Monarch Park, and Oakley Grove until 1930. Opening in the 1880s it had picnic areas, obviously a lake for boating and swimming, ball fields, a children's playground, and a dancing pavilion. Consisting of 4.5 acres it was located in the area bounded by Madison, Ridge, B&O RR and the Pennsylvania RR. The lake was removed in 1930. There is a current Madison Park located at Madison and Erie that was originally a cemetery. The headstones were removed sometime after 1905 and reportedly dumped into the creek bed along Stetinius and the graves graded over but not removed.

Elk Lick House
The Gatch-Megrue Barn was moved here from Milford where it originally was used to store feed and to cure tobacco. It is now used to hold a fine collection of 19th century farm machinery and tools. The Elk Lick House was moved to Sharon Woods in 1970 from Clermont County. Several years were spent in restoring the 1850s, Gothic style farmhouse by the Miami Purchase Association.
The Somerset Presbyterian Church was started in 1820 and the church building shown above was erected in 1829 at Fields-Ertel and Montgomery Roads. This church merged with the Mason Presbyterian Church to form the Heritage Presbyterian Church. The church building was torn down (1991?) and restored at the Sharon Woods Heritage Village Museum and can be seen in the 2nd, present day, photograph.
