LION COUNTRY SAFARI CARDS
The Lion Country Safari attraction was opened in
1974, 3 years after the parks opening. The location was in the area used in the
past by the coaster Son of Beast and is now where the new Banshee coaster is
located. Flight of Fear and Firehawk also use this space. The Safari attraction
was visited by more than 15 million people during its 19 years of operation.
They viewed the animals by way of a 2 mile long monorail that traveled through
the park. The entrance to the monorail was to the right of the current Drop
Tower. The Lion Country Safari was also called Wild Animal Safari and Wild
Animal Habitat over the years. The attraction closed in 1993 due to it gradually
running out of steam and the pressing need for more space needed for the
increasing number of rides and other attractions.
The Monorail can be seen at the Jungle Jim's International Market in
Fairfield.
