ISSUED BY THE PASSENGER DEPT. OF THE B. & O. S-W RAILROAD IN CINCINNATI
There are two types of these cards. The ones seen above are regular post cards while the ones seen below have been removed from a booklet. The bottom edge is serrated where they have been removed. These cards are commonly trimmed so care should be taken before buying one.
SERVICE PRINTING CO.
This set from the Service Printing Co. at 7011 Springdale Road, Cincinnati comes in 3 forms. This one has Merry Christmas printed on it. Another set has this greeting missing, and a third set is printed in black ink on the reverse instead of red.
LAWSON WOOD
This is actually two sets of cards that use drawings made by the artist Lawson Wood (23 August 1878 – 26 October 1957). Wood was an English painter, illustrator and designer known for humorous depictions of cavemen and dinosaurs, policemen, and animals, especially a chimpanzee called Gran'pop, whose annuals circulated around the world. He was deeply concerned with animal welfare and was awarded membership in the Royal Zoological Society in 1934. His animal designs were reproduced as wooden toys and he established a sanctuary for aged creatures. In his later years, he was a recluse and died in Devon in 1957.
